New Year''s Eve, 2011

Good evening, everyone, it's 6pm. It's New Year's Eve, and what an exciting night it is. We're all getting ready to enter a new year, which personally, I'm happy for. 2011 was not a good year for me. But, I do wish all of you the best for 2012. May you have happiness and everything else you want for the new year. Anyway, I'm going to be monitoring all of the Zones this evening until 11:30pm. After 11:30, I'm going to take a break until 12:15am in 2012, then I'll come back until about 3am. So here's crime on this last night of 2011.

6:08pm - 1) Child left alone. 29XX N Sayre. 2) Assist the citizen/burglar alarm. 2555 N Normandy. At the Home Depot. Caller is an employee of the store and accidentally locked theirself in the store. An alarm is also going off from there.

6:22pm - Shots Fired. Wellington and Long. Three heard.

6:27pm - Shots Fired. 49XX W Altgeld. Three heard. Gray van circling the area as well.

6:45pm - Beat car 2534 needs more cars at 1806 N Keystone. They're on a domestic, that's out of control. Beat cars 2531 and 2535 are heading over, along with Beats 2572 and 2583.

6:46pm - 2534 is giving a disregard. Suspect is in custody. They're okay.

6:58pm - Robbery. 5145 W Lake. At the Laramie Green Line station. Three males in black hoodies and jeans robbed the caller of their iPhone.

7:07pm - Disturbance. Cicero and Augusta.

7:11pm - Narcotics. 52XX W Adams. Three people, including a 10 year drug dealer, are selling and smoking drugs.

7:38pm - Beat 1555 has a foot chase from a domestic on the 100 block of N Parkside. Running towards Cocrahan. He's got a gun.

7:39pm - Running towards Central on Cocrahan.

7:40pm - Suspect's in custody. 157 N Central.

7:46pm - Shots Fired. 10XX N Massasoit. One shot heard.

7:47pm - Burglary in progress. 50XX W Monroe. Four people seen entering the caller's garage.

7:51pm - A 15th District Tac unit is pulling an RD number for an "1811" from somewhere. It's HT654853 with the event number of 14271.

9:05pm - Person w/ a gun. 16XX W Juneway. Six or seven male drug dealers in front stealing things out of a red minivan with a plate of A184492. I'm assuming one has a gun.

9:08pm - Beat 2020 is telling all of the early midnight cars in 20 to fill their cars up with gas ASAP.

9:12pm - Shots Fired. Morse and Ashland. One heard.

9:13pm - Disturbance. 4882 N Clark. At Lincoln towing. Male in front disrupting business.

9:14pm - 1) A slow down is being given on the 9:12pm job. 2) Battery in progress. 64XX N Winchester. Neighbors are fighting. 3) The 9:13pm job is now coming in as a "battery in progress". People are fighting in front.

9:16pm - Burglar alarm. 1959 E 71st. At M & R.

9:20pm - Beat car 331 has four loud reports, possibly four gunshots, heard a couple blocks east of Clyde around 69th. So possibly at 69th and Merill, Jeffrey or Paxton.

9:23pm - Battery in progress. 72XX S South Shore. Large family fight on the 10th floor.

9:27pm - Shots Fired. 7000 block of S Cornell. Three heard in the west alley, near Stony Island.

9:28pm - 1) EMS run. 6XX E 73rd. 2) Parker. On 313's Beat.

9:31pm - A 3rd District unit has a traffic stop at Maryland and 63rd.

9:36pm - I don't know what the problem is, but the feed for Zones 8 and 9 on RadioReference isn't loading.

9:37pm - Burglary in progress. 2XX W 103rd. Someone's breaking in.

9:38pm - The feed FINALLY loaded. This means I'll have to monitor this feed now from 11:30pm to 11:38pm. Great...

9:39pm - Beat car 2213 has a group of teens stopped at 99th and Maplewood, along with Evergeen Park PD.

9:41pm - Beat 505 has loud reports at Prairie and 103rd.

9:43pm - Beat 563Eddie tells Dispatch that if he gets any calls from around the area 505 called in loud reports, he can disregard them. They're fireworks, not gunshots.

9:44pm - Shots Fired. 104th and Parnell. More than a dozen fired.

9:49pm - I apologize to all of my southsiders reading the blog, but I cannot get RadioReference to load. This is delaying me from monitoring Zone 6 now. Sorry, guys. Really wish there was something I could do about it.

10:07pm - 1) Theft. 15XX S Drake. A known man took $80 from the caller's friend and refuses to return it. 2) Person w/ a gun. Arlington and Springfield. Male Black, blue leather jacket, skull cap and black pants is robbing another man at gunpoint.

11:35pm - EMS run. 7600 block of S Jeffrey. Two people fell on a CTA bus. Not sure if it stopped or if it's moving.

11:36pm - 1) Shots Fired. 83rd and Buffalo. Numerous heard. 2) Beat car 2234R needs an event number for a violent Zone mission. It's 18512.

11:39pm - Beat 420 is telling Dispatch to send Beats 456, 458 and 472 to Exchange and 79th. I guess he's excepting problems over there at midnight.

11:40pm - 1) Person w/ a gun. 8600 block of S Carpentar. Group of male Blacks walking towards 87th with guns. One has on a gray jacket and one has on a blue hoodie. 2) Beat 4210Adam is hearing 10 to 15 loud reports on the 8700 block of S Justine. Dispatch is requesting a few units to head that way.

All Call Message From Homicide @ Division/Austin Last Night

All call message 202482 - Taken in the homicide from 1201 N Austin on the 29th of December, 2011 is a smith model 5946 gun. It's a '9 millimeter semi-automatic pistol with a stainless steel finish and a four inch barrel. If located, avoid handling and preserve for crime scene processing. IMMEDIATELY notify Area 5 Detectives section at Pax #5117. This is sent per the authority of Area 5 under HT652264. Point to point is clear.

Note: The gun was taken from off-duty police officer Clifton Lewis, who was working security in the M & M convenient store at the time. He was killed as he tried to prevent a couple of males from robbing the store. Lewis was assigned to the Austin (15th) District as a Tactial officer.

10:02am - Beat car 2534 codes out the 10:01am job. He saw that fool earlier.

10:03am - Narcotics. 5200 block of W Adams. 15 people walking up and down the block, selling drugs.

11:08am - Person w/ gun. 5605 W Chicago Ave. Male Black, black hoodie with a green stripe, gray hat and black pants has a gun. He's by the currency. He just got in a car and left.

11:09am - Assault in progress. 5133 W North Ave. Male Black, brown hat and coat with a scarf is threatening the employees inside McDonalds.

11:10am - 1) Municipal ordinance violation. 1851 N Cicero. 2) Couple of sellings on the 30 sector of 25.

11:13am - Wanted from the 11:09am job is a male Black, 5'8, skinny, brown coat and black hat. He possibly fled towards Laramie, then south on Laramie towards LeMoyne.

12:20pm - A 25th District is reporting that there's a group of Cobras at the corner of Tripp and Armitage, mourning the death of a Cobra that was killed a couple of years ago. Units are advised to pay special attention to that intersection and area.

12:31pm - Beat 1572 is advising units to pay special attention to the corner of Chicago and Lorel. There were just 15 Black P Stone gang members out there having a meeting. They were dispersed, for now.

It has a hitch on it, as well as a chrome factory door extending from the outside mirror. This vehicle may also be wanted in connection with the murder that occurred at 43rd and State on Christmas Eve. If spotted, officers are advised to hold any and all occupants and to contact Area 1 Homicide Division.

However, the caller is in front of the friend's home now and the friend isn't coming to the door. Caller thinks the friend has the son and that something bad has happened to the son.

10:02pm - An outside unit is reporting that an off-duty PO needs help at Fullerton and Narranganset. He's got an offender in custody and needs help securing him.

10:03pm - Person w/ a gun. 59XX W Diversey. Male Hispanic has a gun.

10:04pm - Robbery. Austin and Diversey. The Family Dollar at that corner was just robbed by two men with guns. Most likely related to the 10:03pm job.

10:05pm - A slow down is being given at Fullerton and Narranganset.

10:06pm - The Family Dollar offenders are fleeing towards Schubert in the alley between Austin and Mason. The offenders are about 5'8 to 5'9, about 175 to 200 lbs with dark clothing. They also have on ski masks.

10:13pm - A ski mask was just found in the backyard at 27XX N Austin. K9 being requested.

10:16pm - The offenders are possibly in a residence on the 2700 block of N Mason. CPD is going in.

10:18pm - The residence on Mason has been cleared.

Christmas 2011

10:38pm - Beat 1656 is hearing five to six loud reports about three blocks east of Cicero, near Barry. Possibly around the 3100 block of Kenton or Kolmar.

10:44pm - An officer is saying all of those "loud reports" are fireworks. They're being fired off on the 3100 block of N Knox.

3:50pm - Gang disturbance. Schubert and Long. Few calls on it. They're shouting gang slogans and throwing up signs.

4:02pm - Shots Fired. 16XX N Mango. Several gunshots heard.

4:57pm - Gang disturbance. 1XX N Mason. They're out there representing.

5:36pm - Shots Fired. 5601 W Cocrahan. Gunshots fired near the store.

5:37pm - We're now getting a call saying that one shot has been fired IN the store.

5:38 through 5:44pm - Police/Dispatch Chatter regarding 5601 Cocrahan.

5:49pm - Gang disturbance. 5600 W Wellington. Large group loitering and causing tons of problems over there.

6:51pm - Information for the CPD. 22XX W somewhere.

11:24am - Theft. 720 S Cicero. At the Cicero Blue Line station. Two male Black teens, or men in their early 20s, stole a woman's tablet off the train. One's in a white jacket and the other has on a dark jacket.

11:32am - Beat car 1511 has two subjects stopped at Gladys and Cicero, possibly related to the 11:24am job.

12:44pm - Narcotics. 4900 W Walton. Selling.

12:46pm - Battery in progress. 4101 W Grand. At the laundromat. Two females fighting inside there. Panick alarm's going off, too.

1:10pm - Assist the citizen. 42XX W Potomac. Caller needs help getting belongings from the apartment. Officers are advised to use caution because his son, who previously belonged to a gang, may have a gun.

1:53pm - Burglary in progress. 15XX N Waller. Male trying to break into the 1st floor apartment.

2:50pm - Battery in progress. Kedvale and Wabansia. Couple of males are fighting out there.

3:14pm - Reckless driver. 600 S Austin. Car with a plate of X292438 is speeding towards Roosevelt at a high rate of speed.

3:22pm - Assault in progress. 25XX N Killpatrick. Tenant is threatening the caller.

3:24pm - Gang disturbance. 4158 W Division. They're hanging out in front of the store and are harassing the customers. They refuse to leave.

I'll mainly be monitoring Zone 12, but will do a little of Zones 10 and 2, along with Citywide 2, too. Here's crime for this portion of the evening.

6:59pm - Speed chase. Speed chase. Division and Lockwood. A green Kia is coming up hot and CPD is pursing the vehicle. Beat 2561David is chasing. It's heading south on Lockwood, towards Thomas.

7:00pm - Approaching Crystal on Lockwood.

7:01pm - Turning west onto Potomac from Lockwood.

7:02pm - Passing Long on Potomac.

7:03pm - In the east alley of Central, near Potomac.

7:04pm - Passing Austin on Potomac.

7:05pm - South on Linden from Division. They're in Oak Park now. Oak Park PD is being notified.

7:06pm - South from Chicago Avenue on Linden. Beat 2561 is asking officers to terminate the chase.

7:07pm - 2561D is ending the chase at Erie and Elmwood in Oak Park. Oak Park PD is still chasing.

7:08pm - North on Lombard from Erie. It's now a foot chase.

7:11pm - Haven't heard anything else, really, on the chase.

7:25pm - The 7:22pm job is now coming in as a "Assist the P.O." call. Off-duty police officer is reporting that it was a hit and run involving them.

7:31pm - Person w/ a knife. 720 S Cicero. Three male Blacks just jumped over the turnstities where you pay your fare at and one has a knife.

Anyway, I'm mainly just going to monitor Zone 12, and a little of Zones 3 and 10 this evening. Citywide 1 will also be monitored a little bit. 4:21pm - 1) Beat car 1511 is dispersing three for gang loitering at 100 N Latrobe. Event number is 10658. 2) Disturbance. Madison and Laramie. At the Walgreens. Male panhandling under the "no panhandling" sign.

4:23pm - Beat car 1512 is on a suspicious vehicle with no people in it at 49XX W Maypole.

4:27pm - Speed chase. Speed chase. Lavergne and Jackson, south alley. Beat 1583Adam is chasing a car with a plate of 368N196.

4:28pm - West on Gladys from Lavergne. He's wanted for a possible 501 (unavoidable traffic stop).

4:29pm - South on Laramie from Harrison. Heading towards the Eisenhower Expressway.

4:30pm - The car got on the Eisenhower, going east towards Cicero. Zone 10 and Ilinois State Police will be notified.

4:31pm - 1) The car is white in car with gold on it. Occuppied twice by two men. Male driver. Wanted for possible DUI. 2) Zone 10 puts the information out on their air. 3) Burglar alarm. 39XX W Ontario.

9:01am - Speed chase. Speed chase. West on Erie from Mayfield. Beat car 1511 is chasing a 2-door tan Lincoln that was involved in a Criminal Sexual Assault. Beat 1510 is monitoring.

9:02am - South on Ridgeland from Washington. Oak Park 1 is being notified.

9:03am - Left on Harrison from Ridgeland.

9:04am - South on Austin from Harrison.

9:05am - Making a left on Roosevelt from Austin.

9:06am - Passing Central on Roosevelt.

9:07am - East on Roosevelt, approaching Laramie.

9:08am - Oh, this chase just turned ugly. Ambulances needed at Roosevelt and Cicero. Offender crashed into a car or two, and apparently has been shot.
