Summary And Radio Calls Of Mexican Independence Celebrations On Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012

Good morning, everyone, it's 11:40am. Before I talk any further, I'd like to set the background of this post and mention that it is not for today, nor it is me live-blogging. Instead, this is from Sunday, September 16th, 2012. I officially started listening to the radio at 9:48pm that evening, but I was listening on and off before then, starting around 8pm. Since I don't remember everything that happened before 9:48, I am going to give a basic summary of what I heard. Like I said, I started listening in after 9:48, and I have those calls available, so I will be posting them on here. This is from the Mexican Independence celebrations that took place in most parts of the 25th District on Chicago's Northwest side. It was a pretty warm and clear night that evening, and the radio was active in 25, due to all of the celebrations going on. So without further a do, here's the basic summary I promised, and the calls.

• There wasn't much going on when I first started listening around 8. Just the usual calls with disturbances, fights, etc. in the District and in 15. But starting around 8:30pm or so is when things started getting hectic. 25 had started getting reports of groups of people acting up on Fullerton, mostly in the Lockwood-Laramie corridor. These people were on the corners, waving flags, jumping into the street, throwing up gang signs, etc. As was clear to many officers this night, Beat 2515 was the epicenter of all of the activity.
• As we progressed into the 8:45 time-frame, the activity started expanding south and west into the area around Hanson Park. The groups went west on Fullerton from Lockwood to Parkside, and onto the 2200 and 2300 blocks of N Lorel-Lockwood. The 2400 block of N Parkside became a problem around 9pm as well.
• Starting around 9:15, the activity on Fullerton became one huge problem at the corner of Fullerton and Central, with a group of 100 to 150 in the street, blocking traffic, waving the flags, throwing bottles, gang activity, etc. Eventually, Beat 2590, a Lieutenant, asked officers to shut down the street and set up barriers. Traffic was diverted.
• Between 9:15 and 9:30, the activity started spreading north and east into Beats 2521 and 2514, once people involved realized that Fullerton west of Laramie was a no-go. The intersection of Diversey and Lavergne became a problem, as did Diversey and Linder.  The activity also went back east on Fullerton, this time past Laramie. The activity spared the 5100 and 5000 blocks of Fullerton for the most part, but the activity started overspreading the 4900 and 4800 blocks of Fullerton, with their goal of overtaking the corner of Fullerton and Lamon. Their ultimate plan, it appeared, was to take over Fullerton and Cicero.
• By 9:45, there was widespread activity on Fullerton between Parkside and Cicero. New activity also started springing up at Fullerton and Mango, Fullerton and Monitor, and the 6000 to 6200 blocks of W Fullerton, around Rils Park, into Beat 2512.
• The main streets were not the only ones with activity. Some side street corners had activity, too, particularly on 2514's Beat. The following blocks/corners had problems: Linder from Diversey to Wrightwood, Schubert/Long, Parker/Long, Drummond/Lockwood, and Montana/Laramie.
• And then....

9:50pm - Beat 2590 needs a couple of cars to block off traffic at Montana and Cicero.

9:54pm - Beat 2599 is asking for Beat 2500, 25th District Commander, to call him at his convience regarding a manpower update.

9:55pm - Beat 1550 is asking Beat 1554 to meet him at Lamon and Fullerton, but they're blocking off traffic at Fullerton and Cicero.

9:57pm - 2500 wants 2590 to meet him at Fullerton/Cicero.

9:59pm - First Watch Backlog in 25 at 21:59 hours.

10:01pm - 2590 is opening up Cicero, but Fullerton is to stay closed. Units are to also standby.

10:03pm - 2500 wants Beats 41Nora20 and 1440 to keep their guys at Fullerton/Cicero to make sure people stay on the sidewalks.

10:04pm - Beat 6750Charlie is telling 2590 that there's a crowd at Cicero and Diversey near the shopping mall. They're not causing any problems, but they're there.

10:06pm - Beat car 2514 is writing some tickets at Diversey and Lavergne.

10:09pm - 2590 wants to know where Beat cars 2521 and 2525 are. 2521 is at Fullerton/Cicero and 2525 is at Killpatrick and Fullerton, blocking traffic.

10:11pm - 1) Fire. 2310 N Cicero. Three-flat building on fire. 2) Person w/ a gun. 2400 N Cicero. Five male Blacks in a white car showed a gun out the car window. They fled towards Montana on Cicero.

Drama At Spencer School, School Check At Locke

Good morning, everyone, it's 9:15am. It's a sunny morning with temps in the upper 70s. Today's supposed to get to around 90, and with clouds and possibly rain. Today is the first day back to school for the regular track CPS schools, in addition to the year-round schools which are going back after a 3-day weekend. So basically, all CPS schools are in session today. That's a good and bad thing. The kids are off the streets now, but now we're going to hear about them fighting and causing disorder in school. This also builds up tensions between certain groups, gangs, etc. But I'm remaining hopeful that this year for all CPS students will be nothing but safe and productive. Today, I'm monitoring Zone 12 until 2:50pm, then I will be monitoring most of the other Zones after then until about 4:10pm, then I'll come back to Zone 12 at that point. Here's crime for today.

9:16am - Person wanted/battery/assault report. 214 N Lavergne. At the Spencer school. 14 year old female student is wanted for battery, and she just battered someone else. There's also a assault report pending at the school for another incident.

10:20am - Beat 2574 has an on-view traffic accident at 1800 N Kostner. No injuries, just property damage. She'll be doing a report.

11:39am - 16th District units are on the way to the 11:38am job too. A flash is coming in, and the offender is a male Black, dark complected, with a tan brown jacket, sunglasses and fisherman's tight hat. He fled east on Schubert towards Mulligan. Dyepack exploded.

11:41am - Got units on scene now at the bank robbery. It's bona fide. The guy's also got a black business bank and he's about 6 feet tall, 225 lbs. He did have a gun, and it was a sliver handgun. He took about $2000 to $5000 from the bank.

11:42am - Beat car 2511 just saw a guy with that silimar description get into a car on Narragansett near Schubert. It's a gold Ford Explorer. Car fled east on Schubert.

11:46am - Beat 2561 is saying that the offender from the bank robbery went south on Narragansett towards Wrightwood, this is per multiple witnesses. But one witness is telling Beat car 2514 he went down Schubert to Mulligan, then went south on Mulligan towards Wrightwood.

11:47am - Beat 6757 found a fake gun on Schubert. 2514's with him.

11:52am - Burglary. 59XX W Midway Park. Male Black, 5'6 to 5'7, small afro with a gray shirt and gray shorts broke into the garage, then walked west towards Austin on Midway Park.

Labor Day 2012

Good morning, everyone, it's 11:41am. Happy Labor Day to all of you. Today means a lot of things here in the city. The beaches are closing after today, lots of events and festivities are ending, and all Chicago Public School students head back to school tomorrow. In honor of that, I will be on a special "Back-2-School" monitoring schedule tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. Tomorrow, I will be monitoring the Zones in the afternoon, as I have a couple of errands to run in the morning at the time the kids go to school. We'll see how all of this goes tomorrow. Here's crime for today.

12:18pm - Beat 2562Eddie is doing a gang dispersal of two at 12XX N Harding. Console time is 12:18 and the event number is 078XX.

12:21pm - Battery in progress. Mason and Augusta. Five people fighting.

12:40pm - Disturbance. 5606 W Chicago. People loitering in front.

1:49pm - Narcotics. 12XX N Keeler. People selling drugs.

2:08pm - 10-1. 10-1. Palmer and Central Park. Beat car 1434 is over there on a call, and there's a man trying to pull his taser away from him. All available units in the area. So far, Beat cars 2524 and 2534 are headed over, as well as Beats 2544 and 2562Eddie.

2:09pm - Multiple units are still on the way to the 10-1 at Palmer/Central Park. Sounds like a real bad situation. Hope the officer is okay.

2:10pm - A couple of units are trying to come over the air to talk, but Dispatch rudely cuts them off, telling them to "stop talking!". She doesn't want any units coming on the air until an update or slow down is given from the 10-1.

2:11pm - The slow down is being given on both Zones. Per Beat car 1422 on Zone 3, and per Beat 6753 on Zone 12. The officer is okay.

2:12pm - A total disregard is being given. Everyone's fine, and the offender is in custody.

9:11am - Person wanted. 10XX N Monitor. Female wanted for battery.

10:23am - Suspicious person. North and Keystone. Male Hispanic with a bald head was in front of Payless, checking cars. He fled north on Keystone in the alley towards Wabansia. He had on a maroon sweater, on a red/white bike and a black backpack.

10:40am - Beat 1542 has a street stop at Lamon and Augusta.

10:55am - Parker. On 2512's Beat.

11:00am - Burglary in progress. 3XX N Parkside. Two males stealing windows out of an apartment. Maroon minivan sitting out in front.

11:01am - Beat car 1511 is on the scene at the 11am job and can hear someone in there.

11:03am - 1511 is saying that the back door is secure, but someone's definitely inside.

11:04am - Beat 1510 has one locked inside there, and now Beat car 1523 is saying they have one offender with a screwdriver on the ground, while another offender is still loose. So one's in custody so far.

11:11am - Robbery. 5355 W Diversey. Male Hispanic with a blue hoodie, purple bandanna and sunglasses armed with a gun just made two employees lie down on the ground as he robbed the place.

11:15am - Beat 2562Eddie is saying that about $3000 to $4000 was taken from the robbery. Also, wanted from the robbery is a male Hispanic, late 20s, 5'10 to 5'11, with a dark blue hat, blue hoodie, khaki cargo shorts, purple bandanna, black Air Force one low top shoes and sunglasses. He had a Jewel's plastic bag with him.

2:47pm - Dispatch just tried to give 1523's caller a call back but the person who called lives across the street and doesn't know how the officers are supposed to get in.

2:51pm - Beat car 2531 is saying that the 2:49pm job is bona fide. Victim doesn't know who shot him.

2:55pm - The victim is being taken to Mount Sinal, and the shooter is a male Black, 5'6 with a black t-shirt. He fled south on Lorel then east in the alley. Also, there's some shell casings in the alley.
