St. Patrick's Day Parade Detail

Good afternoon, everyone, it's 12:00pm. Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of my Irish people out there! It's a warm St. Pat's Day, and sunny, so it's perfect weather for a parade. Traditionally, for the Chicago Police Department, they set up a special detail for parades, including this particular parade, each year. This year, the St. Patrick's Day Parade Detail is officially on Citywide 6 (460.250). Though, you will also hear them talking about it on Citywide 7 (460.300), as well as Zone 4 (1st and 18th Districts; 460.150). The parade is being held in Downtown Chicago. I'm going to cover any and all calls and radio dispatches for the parade until the parade is over. The parade should be over by mid to late afternoon, by 6pm the latest. Here's the St. Patrick's Day Parade Detail coverage, only found here on Timmy's Chicago Crime Blotter. Enjoy!

Austin Crime Blotter: March 15th, 11:00pm Hour

Good morning, everyone. As you all can see from this blog, I mainly cover Zone 12 most times, for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I live on this Zone, in the 25th District, so I'd like to hear what is going on in my neighborhood. Secondly, I feel that there is never any sort of media attention given to Chicago's West Side and the amount of crime the residents and citizens of the communities on this side of town see.

You all also know this, but it has been very warm in Chicago for the last few days for this time of year. We're only in mid March and temps have been in the 60s, 70s and even lower 80s during that time. When it gets to be this warm in Chicago, traditionally, crime and disorder really goes through the roof. Crimes such as burglary, theft and etc. tend to go down just a little bit (but are relatively high at any given time of the year), while crimes like assault, robbery, battery, etc. really go up. As a result of that, in one neighborhood in particular, large groups of people tend to start loitering on the street, leading up to fights and shootings at times. Not to mention, you also have gangs and then their conflicts arise, resulting in turf wars and incidents over drugs and other things as well. I focus a lot of my attention on the 15th (Austin) District on this blog, and that is due to the high crime rates it has, and due to what I feel is the media not paying attention to the problems in this District/neighborhood.

I listened to Zone 12, the 15th District during the 11:00pm hour last night (March 15th), just to hear what was going on, and here are just a few incidents that occurred:

  • Around 11:15pm - 15th District officers recieved reports of a very large crowd, in upwards of 100 people, fighting and threatening each other at Race and Lockwood.

  • Around 11:50pm - A malee broke out at Lockwood and Adams with a pretty big group.

  • 10pm hour - A shooting, or some other really big incident, took place on the 5500 block of W Congress.

Shots Fired Last Night @ Lorel/Bloomingdale, Shooting On Ohio

Two incidents of violence unfolded on Chicago's West Side last night, with probably many, many more unreported incidents, due to the unseasonal warm weather. Both incidents occurred in the Austin neighborhood.

At 7:52pm, a 25th District officer reported hearing "several loud reports" just south of the 25th District Police Station, which is located at 5555 West Grand Ave. South of the station is a big parking lot with a theater and residential area, which all falls on Beat 2532. Moments later, at 7:54, Dispatch received one call of "Shots Fired" at Lorel and Bloomingdale, with about five heard. This intersection is only a couple blocks southeast of the station. By 8:00pm, 25th District officers were on scene and talking to witnesses. A black 4-door, newer model vehicle was involved. Police are investigating this incident, and there is no further information at this time.

Then, at 11:25pm, a shooting occurred on the 5800 block of West Ohio St. At the time, Dispatch only had one call of "Shots Fired" at Ohio and Menard, and then a few minutes later, Oak Park Police came over the air and told Dispatch that there was a victim at West Suburban Hospital from the "Shots Fired" call. One unit went to the hospital and spoke with the victim, while others worked a crime scene, that was found at 5805 W Ohio. hell casings were found, and so was a loaded gun.

In other news, quite a few gang disturbances were reported last night, including one at Wellington and Meade, around 11:22pm, with a group of them flashing gang signs and walking towards Lyons Elementary school on Austin.
